Built with *tomorrow* in mind

Sustainability is not just about today — it is built with tomorrow in mind. At Unaro Nordic, it is embedded across the value chain— from responsible sourcing and early concept to design, formulation, packaging, production and delivery. We work with clarity and long‑term direction shaped by Nordic values.

We aim to raise the standard for sustainable production in our industry. With transparent methods, measurable outcomes, and a culture of continuous improvement, we work to ensure that every solution contributes to a more responsible future.

Sustainable product *development*

Sustainable product development starts long before production begins. Every material, formula and design choice matters. Our approach values simplicity, functionality and long-term thinking — creating solutions designed with purpose.

We help clients navigate complex decisions and understand the implications of different choices, using science‑based LCA calculations to support informed and responsible decision-making.

Formulation

Our formulation expertise includes:

  • High performance and proven product safety
  • Full compliance with legal and industry requirements
  • Renewable and biodegradable raw materials
  • Traceable sourcing and carefully selected ingredients
  • Reduced environmental footprint
  • Phase-out of hazardous chemicals

Packaging components

We focus on packaging choices that balance performance, responsibility and circularity. Key design principles include:

  • Material efficiency
  • Monomaterials
  • PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) content
  • Recyclability and circular design

The Unaro Nordic LCA tool

In packaging development, every choice matters. To support clearer decisions, Unaro Nordic has developed an LCA‑based climate tool that quantifies climate impact (CO₂e) across the packaging lifecycle — giving brands transparent, practical insight for smarter, lighter and cleaner solutions.

The Tool

Our interactive screening tool highlights environmental hot spots and shows how materials, production setup and logistics influence overall climate performance (CO₂e).

The tool considers:

  • Raw material type and PCR content
  • Manufacturing location
  • Transport to Unaro Nordic
  • Material recyclability

Calculations are based on generic datasets from ecoinvent 3.11 and follow the principles of ISO 14040–44. Climate impact calculations are based on IPCC 2021 GWP100. Further methodological details are available upon request.

Responsible *sourcing*

A sustainable value chain is built on trust, clarity and shared responsibility. At Unaro, we partner with suppliers who are evaluated against our criteria for ethics, environmental care and fair working conditions. This supports the integrity of our products and helps ensure that choices made upstream contribute to the long‑term quality our customers expect.

Our approach

Responsible sourcing means understanding our supply chain and working with structured, comparable insights. We use EcoVadis as an independent assessment tool to evaluate and follow up on our suppliers’ sustainability performance, enabling transparent dialogue and continuous improvement.

With clear expectations and consistent follow‑up, we build relationships that last — and a value chain that is resilient today and better prepared for tomorrow.

Responsible *production*

Unaro Nordic’s production values emphasise reliability, order and responsibility. Our sites operate close to the communities around them — benefiting from strong local labour standards, transparent regulations and renewable infrastructure. This creates predictable supply chains and supports long‑term quality.

Powered by a Nordic energy system built on fossil-free sources, all our facilities run on 100% fossil‑free electricity, providing stable, lower‑impact production conditions as part of everyday operations.

Our approach

Responsible production means working with intention and structure: clear routines, safe workplaces and stable processes. We continuously refine our methods to support efficient flows, reduced waste where possible and enable traceable outcomes.

LEAN principles guide how we organise, improve and secure our daily work. And the Unaro Nordic principles shape how we move forward — keeping today’s production precise and reliable, while helping to safeguard resources for future generations.

What does LEAN mean?

Taking responsibility

At its core, LEAN is about maximising value while minimising waste — in time, materials, energy and effort. It focuses on creating efficient, well-structured processes where every step has a clear purpose, deviations are visible and improvements are made continuously.

From a sustainability perspective, LEAN supports responsible production by reducing unnecessary resource use, limiting rework and creating stable and predictable processes. Over time, this can lead to lower environmental impact, improved working conditions and more resilient operations — making LEAN not only a method for efficiency, but a foundation for long-term, sustainable performance.

For the brands we work with, this translates into reliable quality, predictable delivery and reduced risk — while supporting sustainability goals throughout the product lifecycle.
