When Elmira Tavoosi talks about her role as Regulatory Manager at Unaro Nordic, it is easy to assume the conversation will revolve around regulations, legislation, and complex compliance requirements. And while those topics are certainly part of the job, there is something else that comes up time and again when she reflects on her career: people, collaboration, and the satisfaction of building something together.
Born and raised in the northern Swedish town of Skellefteå, Elmira has always had a driven and ambitious personality. Combining work and studies became a natural part of life early on, and after completing her master's degree, she stepped straight into her first full-time role. Today, she leads the Regulatory team at Unaro Nordic, helping the company navigate a constantly evolving regulatory landscape while supporting innovation, quality, and growth.
Can you tell us a little about your background and career journey?
After completing my master's degree, I joined the Swedish Medical Products Agency as an assessor and later became a senior assessor. After a few years, I moved to the industry side and continued working within regulatory affairs.
What attracted you to the regulatory field?
The combination of science, analysis, quality, and legislation really appealed to me. Many people see regulations as obstacles, but I see them differently. When approached in the right way, regulatory affairs can create opportunities, enable innovation, and drive progress. In many ways, it can act as an accelerator rather than a barrier.
For me, regulations are a tool for creating safety, quality, trust, and a level playing field for businesses. The most rewarding part is when people with different areas of expertise come together to find the best way forward.
How did you end up joining Unaro Nordic?
A few years ago, I became curious about Unaro Nordic and submitted an unsolicited application. At the time, there were no job openings, but after a while, I unexpectedly received an email and was offered a new role – before it was even made public.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Without a doubt, the opportunity to discuss complex questions with knowledgeable colleagues and work together to find solutions.
I enjoy challenging different perspectives, exploring possibilities from multiple angles, and making use of the collective expertise within the organization. That is often when the best solutions emerge.
What are some of the biggest challenges in your role?
One of the most challenging aspects is prioritizing effectively when multiple regulatory issues arise at the same time, particularly during product launches or when legislation changes.
At the same time, I see these situations as an important and natural part of the role. They give both me and my team the opportunity to contribute strategically to the company's development while ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and compliance.
“It should feel right in your gut”
You often say that going to work should “feel right in your gut.” What does that mean to you?
It is a personal motto that has guided me throughout my career. I think it is important to genuinely enjoy where you work and the people you work with. That is exactly my feeling at Unaro Nordic.
What is it about Unaro Nordic that makes you feel that way?
What stands out most is the people. Many of the things I enjoy most are found in everyday interactions; saying hello to colleagues in the hallway, discussing challenges across departments, and sharing knowledge and experiences.
Here, we have a wonderful group of intelligent people who are engaged and supportive. There is also a strong sense of openness and a willingness to help one another. I truly feel that people want both their colleagues and the company to succeed, and that creates a very positive working environment.
